What it is

The Aizen Matsuri is said to open Osaka’s summer festival season. It is held at Aizendō, a temple within the Shitennō-ji temple group, dedicated to Aizen Myōō, a Buddhist deity popular as a god of love and good relationships.

On the first day, aizen-musume, young women in matching yukata, ride through the neighborhood in decorated palanquins called hōe-kago, to the sound of drums and calls. For three days the temple is busy with visitors praying for love, business and good fortune.
